Jim Laughner is originally from the eastern Shore of Virginia but grew up on Tampa Bay in Florida.  Grandson of an oil painter and illustrator, he studied art as a hobby throughout his school years, participating in and winning awards in several Southeastern art shows.  During his college years he was a successful part time biological illustrator.  After graduation from the University of West Florida with a degree in marine biology, he moved to Colorado and began a long career in medial sales and marketing.

Landlocked, he took up polo and combined his passions for art and sport.  After a decade of living in the West and Midwest, he finally made it back to the Gulf Coast area and an invitation to play polo in Point Clear, Alabama resulted in a permanent move to the Fairhope/Point Clear area in 1988.  Although no longer an active player, he still rides and maintains the friendships from his polo and horse training years.  He makes time always for fishing, hunting and boating thus combining play with work.  An avid outdoorsman, his art reflects his love of nature and sport.

Jim now lives on Fish River with his wife, Gail, a basket weaver.
